The idea for Kegs and Metal has been brewing in my head for years. Back in 2003, while working at The Odeon Concert Club in Cleveland, I experienced something unforgettable: the first Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles Six Pack Weekend, organized by Tim Henderson of Bravewords Magazine. Held June 13–14, 2003, the event brought together an incredible lineup — Nevermore, Candlemass, Trouble, Jag Panzer, Evergrey, Kataklysm, Eidolon, Falconer, Wolf, Elegy, Cage, Force of Evil, and Beyond the Embrace. The opening night also featured local heavyweights like Destructor, Soulless, Abdullah, Boulder, Somnus, Archetype, and Aftershok.
The atmosphere was electric. Vendors lined the venue selling CDs, vinyl, DVDs, cassettes, and all kinds of metal swag. I probably spent most of what I earned working those long but exciting two days. What stayed with me, though, wasn’t just the music — it was the sense of community. Bands and fans connected in a way that made the whole thing feel like more than just a concert. It was a gathering, and I never forgot that feeling.
Fast forward to 2013, when my bass player from Hydra and I launched Franklin Brewing Company. Out of that came BrewFest Waterfront District, which ran for nine successful years before coming to a close. Still, the idea kept nagging at me: combine my love of rock, traditional metal, and craft beer into one unforgettable event.
Now, it’s finally happening. On Saturday, June 20, 2026, the first-ever Kegs and Metal Festival will take place — a celebration of loud riffs, great beer, and good times. Cheers to what’s ahead. Let’s have some fun!
